JPG PNG WebP AVIF JXL

Keep metadata (EXIF) Camera, lens and date. Also the GPS location, if the photo has one.

Resize Max width

JPG: Photos. Smallest for anything camera-like, no transparency. Works everywhere.
PNG: Logos, screenshots, graphics with flat colour or transparency. Photos get big.
WebP: Photos and graphics, with transparency. 25% smaller than JPG. Works in every browser.
AVIF: Newer than WebP, 20 to 30% smaller again, slower to make. Works in every current browser.
JXL: Best quality per byte, but only Safari can display it so far. Good for archiving, not for the web.
